Vina P. Hermanto
(b.1991, Indonesia)
Influenced by the teachings of Buddhism, my artistic journey has been shaped and refined by a profound understanding of life's rhythms and interconnectedness. I firmly believe that art is a profound reflection of life, and in turn, life is mirrored in art.
My chosen medium, ceramics, has become a canvas for my exploration and experimentation. Its versatile nature allows me to delve deep into the interplay between materiality and creativity, embodying the very essence of my artistic philosophy.
Currently, I am embarking on a creative exploration using elastic-plastic bubbles as a medium. This endeavor seeks to challenge the relentless pace of modern life and provoke thought on our individual and collective existence.
In a world characterized by constant motion and the relentless pursuit of speed, I find solace and inspiration in the subtlety of slowness. My artistic journey is an exploration of "slowness as movement," a concept that challenges the conventional notions of progress and velocity.
I believe that, in the unhurried pace of slowness, there exists a profound and often overlooked form of movement. It is a movement that invites us to pause, to breathe, and to immerse ourselves in the exquisite details of our surroundings.
My artistic path has led me to showcase my work in exhibitions like VERNACULA_ in Singapore. These experiences have not only provided a platform for my expression but have also served as milestones in my artistic journey.
In my work, I aspire to convey the profound connections between the tangible and intangible, the spiritual and material, all underpinned by the guiding principles of Buddhism. You will find the intricate dance of time, as it weaves its way through the canvas of life. I aim to capture the essence of moments in their most unadulterated form, allowing viewers to witness the hidden narratives that unfold in the stillness of slowness. It is my hope that through my art, viewers can contemplate the intricate tapestry of existence and find moments of stillness within the relentless march of time.
